Smara + Claude

Claude, with a memory that's actually yours.

Three steps: connect, install the Skill, say one phrase. Ten minutes from now Claude greets you like it never forgot — and everything it learns is yours to inspect, correct, and take anywhere.

Fair warning from our beta: most people who add the connector and stop there never see their memory do anything. Claude doesn't volunteer tools it hasn't been asked to use — steps two and three are what bring it to life.

Step 1 of 3

Add the connector.

In Claude (web, desktop, or mobile): open Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, paste the URL, and approve access on the consent screen that opens. No client ID, no secret — Claude registers itself and signs you in with your Smara account.

Don't have an account yet? The consent screen will walk you through creating one — or sign up first (free during preview).

In Claude Code, it's one command — the browser opens for the same consent screen.

Step 2 of 3

Install the smara-memory Skill.

This is the step people skip, and it's the one that makes memory automatic. The Skill teaches Claude the memory discipline: recall what it knows at the start of every conversation, record durable facts as they appear, and correct old memories when you contradict them — all without being asked.

In Claude: download the Skill file, then add it under Settings → Capabilities → Skills.

In Claude Code: save it as ~/.claude/skills/smara-memory/SKILL.md.

What the Skill carries

  • Recall-firstget_context on the first message of every conversation — Claude starts already knowing you.
  • Honest importanceidentity facts near 1.0, passing details near 0.2 — so decay keeps what matters.
  • Correctionscontradict an old fact and Claude supersedes it, with the change in your audit trail.
  • Domain awarenesspersonal, professional, family, health — recall narrows when the conversation does.

Step 3 of 3

Say the phrase.

Open a new conversation and say the starter phrase. Claude will store its first real memory and read back what it already knows — including the welcome note Smara left when you connected.

Then close the conversation, open a fresh one, and ask what it knows about you. That round trip — store, consolidate, recall — is the whole product in thirty seconds.

say this first
Use Smara to remember that I'm trying out my new memory —
and tell me what you already know about me.
then, in a new conversation
Check my Smara memory — what do you know about me?

What happens next

Your memory starts working while you don't.

Bring your history

Ask Claude to migrate what it already knows about you — the smara-migrate Skill makes the assistant itself the migration tool. Full chat exports import separately via the docs.

ChatGPT, Gemini, and Grok connect to the same memory — setup lives in the docs, and what one assistant learns, the others know.
